Access to safe and sufficient water is a basic human need and a human right. Access to sanitation facilities, waste management and promotion of appropriate hygiene practices are essential to reduce exposure to public health threats.
KMDF seeks to save lives and uphold rights (to a sufficient quantity of clean water for personal and domestic uses) by providing WASH solutions to meet both immediate and temporary needs and the facilitation of durable solutions.
Clean water, basic toilets and good hygiene practices are essential for the survival and development of children. Today, there are many People in Kabale Municipality who don’t use improved sanitation, and others who don’t have access to improved water sources.
Without these basic needs, the lives of millions of children are at risk. For children under five, water- and sanitation-related diseases are one of the leading causes of death. Many Children in Kabale Municipality die from preventable diseases caused by poor water, and a lack of sanitation and hygiene.
KMDF also seeks to promote access to key institutions and services through provision of WASH facilities. In particular, KMDF works to promote enrolment and attendance in education services through provision of safe water and sanitation to schools and other education facilities.
KMDF water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) team works in 74 villages of Kabale Municipality to improve water and sanitation services, as well as basic hygiene practices.
